Turning Around the Water
Ava is Hiding Again, at the Lake House near Starke, Florida
Turning Around the Water is a series of photographs taken with various old and outdated 35mm film. The images are shot with a plastic camera that spins during the exposure and captures a 360 degree panoramic image. This series spans several years, and suggests a youth spent around the water. The subject stands solitary and turned away from the camera, small in the long encompassing frame, and hinting at the sense of the isolation that surrounded our family during this time. The title not only reflects this, but also refers to the motion the camera makes as it turns to make the 360 degree exposure. The inclusion of the sprocket holes, flare, and exposed edges gives a nod to the medium of photography itself and the nostalgia of film.
